Using panel data analysis, the results indicate that trade and social deglobalization have a negative impact on economic growth, while financial deglobalization and the subdimensions of social deglobalization have a positive influence on growth. In this context, the present study aims to investigate the effects of deglobalization on economic growth in 34 OECD countries during the period 2000-2019, in various dimensions. There have been discussions about whether the current decade is experiencing deglobalization and its effects. The world has experienced periods of globalization (Globalization I, II, and III) as well as periods of deglobalization (Deglobalization I and II). ![]() ![]() However, similar situations have been experienced in the past, such as colonization, the Great Depression, and the Cold War. The current global landscape has been marked by a series of factors, such as the US-China trade war, disintegration in the European Union (EU), the refugee crisis, and the pandemic, which have impeded the process of globalization. In the future, more Chinese cities will likely choose to reorganize their district boundaries. The findings demonstrate two advantages of district boundary reorganization for China’s central cities: it eases the integration of new city districts and urban areas and promotes balanced development within the city. This study takes Hangzhou, an important central city in eastern China, as a case study to illustrate two ways in which a central city can optimize its urban spaces through district boundary recombination: scale recombination and regional recombination. From the perspective of scalar reorganization and regional reconstruction, the adjustment of urban administrative divisions can be regarded as a regional construction strategy initiated by city governments to reshape the spatial structure, improve the governance relationship, and enhance the cities’ competitiveness. District boundary reorganization has become a new trend in reforming China’s administrative division of central cities. The recent development of its central cities has gradually changed from large-scale incremental expansion to stock optimization. Since China is the largest developing country in the world, its urban reconstruction has significance for countries undergoing rapid urbanization. Furthermore, results also suggest that there are some important unexplored consequences of globalization in developing countries therefore, future research should appraise the appropriate dimensions of globalization to accelerate economic growth. While de facto, de jure social globalization and de facto economic globalization hinders growth. Moreover, de facto, de jure political globalization and de jure economic globalization boosts economic growth. It also demonstrates that de facto and de jure globalization promotes economic growth. Two step generalized method of moment (SGMM) has been used and the results show that globalization influence economic growth in developing countries. Five-year non-overlapping window for the panel dataset of 46 selected developing countries over the period from 1980 to 2018 has been used to asses this impact. This study examines the impact of composite index of globalization as well as its economic, social and political dimensions by distinguishing the de facto and de jure aspects. ![]()
